A fraction has a numerator (top) and denominator (bottom). To add fractions, we often need a common denominator.

For example, 1/2 + 1/4: rewrite 1/2 as 2/4, then 2/4 + 1/4 = 3/4. Simplify the answer if the numerator and denominator share a factor.

Examples
1/2 + 1/4 = 3/4
1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3
